Starting Salary: $17.84

Nature of Work: Administer Domain Servers, Local Area Networks (LAN), internal databases, and network services for the Anchorage Police Department.  Advise users of available server, data networking, personal computer, and networking products/technology.  Coordinate with consultants, administrative staff, employees, other agencies/vendors, and the public.  Install and configure computer, networking, and other hardware and software and provide orientation and training.  Prepare reports, procurement forms, update databases, and perform other duties as specified.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Must posses a valid Driver’s License 
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a four (4) year degree in Computer Science or a related field, and one year experience of applicable information systems.  Appropriate course work or work experience in data processing may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must pass initial testing.

Preferred Qualifications: Applicants must demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a team setting, creatively address problems and achieve organizational goals, and bring complex projects to successful closure.

Selection Process:

  • Initial testing for Data Systems Technician will consist of a Nelson/Denny Reading Comprehension Exam. Further testing will consist of a Personal History Questionnaire (preliminary to the background investigation), assessment interview, oral boards, and background investigation.
  • If selected, as a condition of employment, the person selected will be required to successfully complete a drug test prior to beginning work.

Hours of Work: Applicants must be willing and able to work various shifts as determined by the supervisor.
