Patrons with Disabilities
Anchorage Public Library makes its facilities, services and collections accessible to meet the needs of all patrons. Library staff are always ready to assist with locating materials, operating the catalog and other equipment or reaching items from high or low shelves.
All library locations are wheelchair accessible with marked parking, ramps, elevators, and public restrooms. At Loussac Library a three-wheeled battery powered scooter may be checked out from the Security Office just inside the second floor entrance.
Assistive Listening Devices
Borrow an assistive listening device from the Loussac Security Office, Level 2, for any event held in the Wilda Marston Theatre or Municipal Assembly Chambers.
For the Visually Impaired
Ask for a hand held magnifier at any library branch.
Large Print Books
All library locations have collections of large print books on a variety of topics including recent bestsellers.
Borrow books on CD or cassette tape from any library branch or download from home computer or WiFi device via ListenAlaska or OneClick Digital.
Talking Book Center
Call the Alaska State Library's Talking Book Center at 269-6575 to enroll in the Library of Congress program for individuals who have difficulty reading printed material. Special playback equipment is provided free of charge by the Center.
Closed Captioned Videos
Over 3,000 DVDs and tapes from Loussac Library's video collection are closed captioned for the hearing impaired. Search the catalog under the subject "video recordings for the hearing impaired" for a list of titles.
