All parking spaces, loading berths, driveways, and other motor vehicle driving surfaces shall be paved and maintained with dustless, all-weather, hard materials appropriate for the municipality's sub-arctic environment, and equal in strength to two inches municipal Type E asphaltic concrete and a base material suitable for the intended traffic, to standards prescribed by the municipal engineer or as otherwise approved by the traffic engineer.

Parking lots with 10 spaces or fewer in the class B districts (R-6, R-7, R-8, R-9 and R-10) may  be surfaced with a layer of crushed rock of no more than one inch in diameter, to a minimum depth of three inches.

Residential driveway standards are found in AMC 21.07.110F.3.c."The total width of driveway entrances to a lot from a street shall not exceed 40 percent of the frontage of the lot, or 33 percent of the frontage if the platting authority or traffic engineer finds that conditions warrant it."

Commercial driveway standards are found in AMC 21.07.090H.8.d.ii. "The total width of driveway entrances to a nonresidential lot from a street shall not exceed 40 percent of the frontage of the lot, or 33 percent of the frontage if the platting authority or traffic engineer finds that conditions warrant it, unless the applicant provides for snow storage in a manner approved by the decision-making body."

For other driveway requirements such as minimum width and maximum slope, see the Traffic Department's standards policy (in .pdf format.)
