Vision Zero Commitment

WHAT IS VISION ZERO?

Traffic fatalities and serious injuries have been on the rise in Anchorage over the last ten years. Vision Zero is a community commitment to reduce the loss of life and major injuries on roadways to zero. This bold goal can only be achieved by taking a data-driven and coordinated approach to designing safer streets, public education, evaluating what works, and enforcing the best laws. Streets should be safe for everyone – people on foot, in cars, using public transit, and on bikes. Vision Zero puts the safety of human life above all else.

The Municipality of Anchorage is applying a systems-based approach to develop a Vision Zero Action Plan – fatal and serious injury data for all modes of transportation are currently being gathered and analyzed to understand traffic safety issues and prioritize resources based on evidence of the greatest needs and impact.

The Vision Zero Action Plan will be complete this summer, 2018.
