Vision Zero Commitment

WHAT IS VISION ZERO?

Traffic fatalities and serious injuries have been on the rise in Anchorage over the last ten years. Vision Zero is a community commitment to reduce the loss of life and major injuries on roadways to zero. This bold goal can only be achieved by taking a data-driven and coordinated approach to designing safer streets, public education, evaluating what works, and enforcing the best laws.We want safe streets for everyone – people on foot, in cars, using public transit, and on bikes. Vision Zero puts the safety of human life above all else.

The Municipality of Anchorage is applying a systems-based approach to develop a Vision Zero Action Plan – fatal and serious injury data for all modes of transportation have been gathered and analyzed to understand traffic safety issues and prioritize resources based on evidence of the greatest needs and impact.

Read the Vision Zero Report and Action Plan below, completed in November 2018 after extensive input from many community stakeholders.

The Municipality of Anchorage is working with Vision Zero partners to develop communications materials for a public education campaign to encourage safe driving and improve the safety of Anchorage roads for all users. The materials should be complete and publicly available in late January 2019.
