With skyrocketing gas prices, demand for transit has never been higher. Park-and-ride lots in the Valley are at overflow, the popular Share-a-Van program has a 700-person waiting list, and Anchorage and Mat-Su buses are seeing double-digit ridership growth. Existing commuter services are at capacity, and demand has quickly outpaced supply. Anchorage’s People Mover bus system is implementing route restructuring and adding exciting new features, including real-time GPS tracking. We’re also working with the Mat-Su Borough to increase commuter transit service between Anchorage and the Valley, where over 14,000 people commute every day. We are working to establish a Regional Transit Authority that can plan and implement multi-modal service between the two communities that is integrated with service within each community.
