City Hall Green Star
Congratulations City Hall!
As of 1/13/07, City Hall is Officially a Green Star Award Winner.
Please join us in welcoming our new chairpersons Linda Larsen and Richard Whitehead and thanking our past chairpersons, Art Eash and Lupe Marroquin.
Green Star is a non-profit organization based in Anchorage that encourages waste reduction, energy conservation and pollution prevention. Green Star recognizes businesses and organizations that voluntarily meet and exceed Green Star's high standards of environmental responsibility through its Green Star and Air Quality Awards.
In January of 2007 City Hall as presented with a Green Star Award for its inter-departmental commitment to reduce waste and conserve energy, and in the process save taxpayer dollars. City Hall joins the growing list of other Municipal buildings as a recipient of the award; The Department of Health & Human Services, Transit Center, Dimond High School and others.
- City Hall Green Star initiatives include:
- Home battery recycling receptacles on each floor
- Installation of energy saving T8 fluorescent lights in restrooms
- Organizing a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) working group to write an energy efficiency ordinance that will apply to public buildings
