You’re invited! Walk Together: Anchorage

On Saturday October 21, 2017 at 11:00am, The Anchorage Sister Cities Commission and the Mayor’s “Welcoming Anchorage” initiative are proud to host the second annual Walk Together: Anchorage. Started in Australia in 2012, Walk Together is an annual march celebrating multiculturalism, diversity and inclusion. As Anchorage is proudly home to an extremely diverse community, this is an excellent platform to affirm our continued commitment towards fostering a warm sense of welcome and community throughout our city. Anchorage Sister Cities is proud to connect this event to the “Walk Together” happening in Darwin, Australia, one of our own Sister Cities.

This year’s theme is “Walk Together for Freedom” – Freedom to Belong; Freedom to be Yourself; and Freedom to Hope. Walk Together is a celebration of all that diversity adds to our city as we recognize that we all have walked different paths to become Alaskans. Walk Together exists to call out the best in the Alaskan character, our inclusive, generous, compassionate and welcoming nature in a large demonstration of the city we’d like to become.

WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE?

The overall goal for the event is to provide an opportunity for individuals and organizations to express, in a non-political way, their belief in a welcoming, inclusive community that embraces the contributions of everyone and the benefits it gives our City.

WHAT’S PLANNED?

On October 21st, hundreds of Anchorage residents will gather and walk together as a symbol of their support to see Anchorage become more welcoming and generous. We will meet at TOWN SQUARE PARK ANCHORAGE, with the walk beginning at 11:00am.

We have a set a short route starting at Towne Square Park, East on 6th Avenue to Cordova Street, and then West on 5th Avenue, back to Towne Square Park. Please register yourself and family members by clicking on the “Individual Registration” button below. If you are with an organization, please register by clicking the “Organization Registration” button below. This is a free event and open to the public to attend.
