Mayor Dan Sullivan released the following statement honoring Mary Louise Rasmuson:
On July 30, 2012, Mary Louise Rasmuson passed away at the age of 101 in Anchorage, Alaska.
“Yesterday Alaskans lost Mary Louise Rasmuson, who was a phenomenal pioneering woman. Although she will be greatly missed, her legacy will live on through her philanthropies, her family, and the hard-working people at the Rasmuson Foundation,” said Sullivan.
Mrs. Rasmuson was influential in shaping both Anchorage and Alaska since her arrival to the Last Frontier in 1962. She served on the Rasmuson Board of Directors for over 45 years, helping direct more than $200 million in grants to Alaskan nonprofit organizations through the Foundation.
“First Lady Lynnette and I express our sincere condolences to all that knew and loved her.”
A public funeral mass is scheduled for September 10 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Anchorage and details will be announced forthcoming.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center, 625 C Street, Anchorage, AK, 99501.
