MAYOR DIRECTS POLICE DOWNTOWN DURING BAR BREAK HOURS
November 15, 2013-
The Anchorage Police Department will be adding a minimum of 8 patrol officers on the overnight shift during the weekends starting on November 15, 2013 to provide additional enforcement during bar break and in the downtown area. Some officers will be conducting foot patrols downtown, while other officers will be patrolling the area in their cruisers.
"We want to make sure that everyone can enjoy the downtown district and feel safe in our city," said Mayor Dan Sullivan. "The additional enforcement will deter crime and encourage residents to act safely and responsibly."
This decision came as a result of meetings between Mayor Sullivan’s office, Police Chief Mark Mew, the Anchorage Downtown Partnership, the Anchorage Cabaret, Hotel, Restaurant, & Retailer’s Association (CHARR), downtown business owners and concerned members of the public.
