ANCHORAGE- After an extensive eight-month evaluation of new software programs, Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) officials have selected SAP to replace its current Peoplesoft application.
The MOA’s purpose in selecting new software is part of the city’s overall efficiency initiative. SAP will allow the city’s departments to conduct business in a paperless environment, which in turn allows business functions to proceed faster and more efficiently, in addition to reducing the use of paper.
SAP is a global Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) organization with 109,000 customers in 120 countries that offers best practice business processes with a focus on public sector business requirements. SAP software will be used for the MOA’s Financial, Human Resource, Procurement, Budget, Project and Grant business processes.
In addition, the Municipality has selected Black and Veatch as its implementation partner. B&V is a global consulting, engineering and construction company that specializes in Information Technology (IT), government, energy and water markets throughout the world. B&V has a track record of success after successfully guiding many municipalities through the SAP implementation process. They also bring a methodology that will assist the MOA in implementing best practices that have already been vetted, implemented and optimized over tens of thousands of customers.
MOA plans to begin implementation in September and is targeting a "go live" date in 18 months. Total contract award for B&V and SAP is $9.6 million. The MOA is targeting a 53 percent return on investment over 10 years.
