ANCHORAGE - As part of a continued commitment to ending homelessness, the Municipality of Anchorage’s Department of Health and Human Services in conjunction with RurAL CAP, Catholic Social Services and the U.S. Veterans Administration, continue to pursue shelter for every United States Veteran in Anchorage.

“In July, we tracked 23 veterans living on the streets of Anchorage with no shelter. As of today, I am pleased to announce that all 23 veterans have a roof over their head,” said Mayor Ethan Berkowitz. “If we connect veterans to case managers, we can get them into housing with the necessary support services. The bottom line is that any homeless U.S. Veteran within the Municipality of Anchorage who wants help, can get it.”

As of July 1st, 2015, there were 23 unsheltered vets identified in Anchorage who needed assistance to find a place to live. With the help of our partners, all 23 veterans were provided assistance finding shelter, with 10 in permanent housing and 13 housed in emergency shelters.  The Department of Health and Human Services will continue working with community partners to end veteran homelessness in Anchorage by the end of 2015.
