Mayor Berkowitz Selects Andrew Halcro To Lead the Anchorage Community Development Authority

ANCHORAGE - Mayor Ethan Berkowitz is pleased to announce Andrew Halcro as the new Director of the Anchorage Community Development Authority (ACDA).  The mission of ACDA is to “bring together resources and partners to develop and redevelop opportunities in Anchorage.”

“A vibrant city center with multiuse buildings, more arts and culture, and a robust economic heart of the city is one of my top priorities and a vision I share with Andrew,” said Mayor Berkowitz. 

ACDA is part of the Mayor’s plan to aggressively develop downtown and other areas of Anchorage.  Prior successful ACDA projects include developments in Mountain View and Government Hill. 

“Andrew brings years of business experience and local knowledge which will help downtown Anchorage and other neighborhoods reach their full potential.  Under Andrew’s leadership ACDA will continue to successfully develop neighborhoods in Anchorage making us safer, more secure, and stronger,” stated Mayor Berkowitz.

Andrew Halcro grew up in Anchorage, attended local public schools and the University of Alaska Anchorage.

For the last thirty years he has managed extensively in the private sector, including roles as the Chief Executive Officer of Avis Rent a Car of Alaska, and most recently as the President of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce.

Andrew is a former two term Republican state legislator representing Sand Lake, and is currently chair of the 90% by 2020 education initiative and is a past board member of AEDC, Visit Anchorage, Anchorage Downtown Partnership and School Business Partnership.

He is married to Vicki Halcro, and they have two grown daughters.
