MAYOR SULLIVAN RECEIVES PORT BRIEFING

October 3, 2012

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA-

The Municipality of Anchorage (MOA), the Port of Anchorage (POA), and the Maritime Administration (MARAD) received a verbal executive briefing from the Unites States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and CH2M HILL on October 2, 2012 regarding the Port of Anchorage Intermodal Expansion Project (PIEP) Suitability Study and Project Analysis. The presentation indicated some of the initial concerns regarding the expansion work appear valid; however more will be understood upon the release of the Draft Final Summary Report, which is expected to be over 2200 pages.

The draft report from the USACE and CH2M HILL, will be released to the MOA, POA, and MARAD in mid-October 2012 for internal review and comment.

A briefing to the Anchorage Assembly and the Geotechnical Advisory Commission by the USACE and CH2M HILL is scheduled for November 9, 2012. A media opportunity with the Mayor and other agency representatives will be likely. Details regarding the schedule for November 9, 2012 will be released at a later date.

"The Port of Anchorage is an incredibly important asset to Alaska. Over 85% of the consumer goods that we rely on every day comes through the Port of Anchorage. It is a top priority for my administration to develop a solid plan moving forward," said Mayor Sullivan.
