Anchorage junior and senior high school students who are doing well in school, have overcome a challenge, have a vision for their future, and are active community members will be recognized Thurs., March 22, 2012, at the Mayor’s 2012 Meeting the Challenge and CREATE Award Ceremony.

Started 16 years ago, this program informs the community about some of Anchorage’s most inspiring high school juniors and seniors. Additionally, the students are asked to name their most inspirational teacher or mentor, who is then presented with the mayor’s CREATE (Community Recognition for Educational and Teaching Excellence) award.

The Meeting the Challenge Program is a partnership between the Mayor’s Office and the University of Alaska.  The winners will be recognized at Thursday’s event with featured speakers Mayor Dan Sullivan and UA Assistant VP Saichi Oba.

Thursday’s event begins at 5:30 p.m. at UAA’s Lucy Cuddy Center.
