ANCHORAGE – The Municipality of Anchorage announces the hiring of Brendan Babb as Chief Innovation Officer. As CIO, Brendan will seek to increase transparency, enhance productivity, and facilitate more public participation in local government. Mr. Babb will focus on expanding Anchorage’s new open data initiative and converting innovation into a business process. He will work in the Office of Management and Budget.

“Brendan has distinguished himself as a champion of innovation and data entrepreneurship in the private sector. He can take that experience and enthusiasm to accelerate our open data initiative, and make Anchorage a more transparent and tech savvy city,” stated Mayor Ethan Berkowitz.

Mr. Babb received a BS and MS from the University of Oregon State in Mathematics. He has extensive professional experience as a data scientist and software developer. For the past three years, Brendan served as co-Captain for Code For Anchorage, a volunteer organization dedicated to improving community engagement through technology.
