ANCHORAGE – The Municipality recently received $860,000 from the State Department of Transportation and Public Facilities Alaska Transportation Alternatives grant to complete construction on the Fish Creek Trail Extension. The Municipality also received $536,555 for the 10th Avenue Bike Boulevard.

Over 1,800 residents commute to work and other activities by bike and foot.  Improving our pathways makes Anchorage a more competitive and attractive community for business investment and relocation.

The Fish Creek Trail Extension will connect North and South Spenard via a safe, greenbelt trail separated from traffic. It will form a continuous corridor through Spenard from Northwood to Northern Lights Blvd.

"The Fish Creek Trail extension and the 10th Ave. Bike Boulevard make for safer streets and trails, they help bikers and pedestrians move through neighborhoods and are part of our Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic accidents," said Mayor Ethan Berkowitz.

The 10th Avenue Bike Boulevard project will establish a shared roadway by implementation of signs, painted symbols, and other measures to encourage safe bike travel on 10th Ave from P Street to Medfra.  As identified in the Anchorage Bike Plan, this route creates the opportunity for east/west bicycle traffic in downtown Anchorage.
