Mayor's Corner

ANCHORAGE – Today, the Anchorage Police Department and Anchorage Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced a partnership with Anchorage Community Mental Health Services (ACMHS) to embed a CAP Liaison at APD. This position will work closely with the APD Community Action Policing team to connect the homeless population and those with mental health needs to social services.

“Force multipliers, like a CAP Liaison, allow APD to better focus its resources on promoting public safety and helping solve homelessness,” said Mayor Ethan Berkowitz.

This position will work alongside APD with community members experiencing homelessness or mental health issues. During the winter months, these efforts will focus on engaging individuals sleeping outside and bringing them into shelter.

The partnership will begin the end of December and is funded through a DHHS federal grant and community matching funds.
