Today at Mayor Sullivan’s weekly press briefing, the Mayor announced that Anchorage Police Department Chief Mark Mew was honored with the Patriot Award by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
The Patriot Award is recognition given by the Department of Defense for outstanding support to a service member by their civilian employer.
APD Officer Chris Simmons nominated Chief Mew for the recognition. Simmons cited he routinely has the support of both Chief Mew and the entire department during previous deployments as well as his current training tempo.
Simmons was away at training so his wife, Gia Simmons showed her gratitude and appreciation.
“We are very proud of Chief Mew: he certainly has earned this award. I also want to thank Officer Simmons and Gia for their service to Alaska, and Major General Thomas Katkus for supporting Chief Mew” said Mayor Sullivan.
