ANCHORAGE- The Anchorage Parks and Recreation Department invites families to Spenard Recreation Center for a program delivered by the Children and Nature Network.
On Thurs., Nov. 12 from 7- 8 p.m. at the Spenard Recreation Center, Martin LaBlanc, Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Children and Nature Network, will speak about how parents can raise healthier kids by exposing them to nature and the outdoors.
Resource booths from local outdoor organizations also will be on hand for participants to explore. Attendees can make and take home their own trail mix and enter a raffle to win outdoor gear from REI. Free childcare is available.
The event is sponsored by “Get Outdoors Anchorage” and the Anchorage Parks and Recreation Department. “Many Anchorage residents do not currently enjoy the wide range of outdoor recreational opportunity because they do not have the right gear, they are intimidated to try something new, they don’t know what programs and activities exist, or none of the options appeal to them,” said Chris Conlon, Recreation Superintendent with Parks and Rec. “Our hope is that in hosting this event we can break down the barriers to participation in local outdoor recreation opportunities and get families outside and enjoying Anchorage - outdoors.”
