Anchorage Olympic Winter Games

Exploratory Committee Mission

The Anchorage Olympic Winter Games Exploratory Committee, comprised of distinguished experts, leaders and visionaries from our community, will assess the viability of a host city bid for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. The study will be based on the most accurate data and information available in order to make a recommendation to Mayor Sullivan on the feasibility of pursuing a host city bid. In order to compile a well-developed report, the Anchorage Olympic Winter Games Exploratory Committee members will:

  • Assist with fundraising and sponsorship efforts
  • Assist with maintaining positive relations with partner organizations
  • Lend specific support as experts in their area of business
  • Gather and report necessary information in order to meet criteria put forth by the International Olympic Committee.

Official Olympic Winter Sports

The Olympic Games in Sochi will be holding events in 15 disciplines of 7 winter sports:

  • Biathlon
  • Bobsleigh: Bobsleigh and Skeleton
  • Curling
  • Ice Hockey
  • Luge
  • Skating: Figure Skating, Short Track Speed Skating and Speed Skating
  • Skiing: Alpine, Cross Country, Nordic Combined, Ski Jumping, Freestyle and Snowboard

Paralympics

The Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games will be holding events in five winter sports:

  • Alpine Skiing
  • Biathlon
  • Cross-Country Skiing
  • Ice Sledge Hockey
