Mayor Sullivan lobbies state legislators for Anchorage priorities
I recently spent three days in Juneau meeting with state lawmakers about Anchorage’s legislative priorities.
During my time in the state capital, I attended meetings with many Anchorage legislators, all of whom are eager to work together to advance Anchorage's interests.
I was also privileged to participate in the Alaska Conference of Mayors/AML Board of Directors Winter Meeting, where I had the opportunity to meet with mayors from around Alaska to discuss common legislative issues. Among the issues covered were state revenue sharing, PERS reform, and a new proposal that would give municipalities the option to ask the state for either revenue sharing or reimbursement for unfunded state mandates like tax exemptions.
The Municipality’s 2011 Legislative Program includes millions of dollars in road upgrades, including 50/50 matching rehabilitation programs for streets and pedestrian facilities. The priorities also include funding for upgrading several Project 80s facilities, like the Egan Center, Loussac Library and Sullivan Arena, among others.
