MOA receives $2.4M to Replace Aging Bus Maintenance Facility Roof

Posted: 5/30/12

On Monday May 14, Mayor Dan Sullivan welcomed U.S. Transportation Deputy Secretary John Porcari to Anchorage.  Porcari presented the Municipality with a $2.4 million check from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to replace the 30-year-old roof of the People Mover bus maintenance facility. The new roof will improve the facility's overall energy efficiency and lead to savings on heating fuel costs.

"President Obama's blueprint for an America built to last, means investing in transportation systems that will keep people and goods moving," said Deputy Secretary Porcari. "We want to make sure that the People Mover buses that are used every day by senior citizens, people with disabilities, and hard working families are in good working order."

"By reinvesting hard-earned taxpayer dollars back into their community," said Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff, “we are making sure that these workers can do their work in a dry environment and can keep Anchorage's city bus service reliable and safe."

The funds were awarded through the FTA's Fiscal Year 2011 State of Good Repair Program and will be matched with bond funds.
