Health Department, Mexican Consulate Celebrate a Year of Partnership

Posted: 8/1/1

For almost one year, the Municipality of Anchorage’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Mexican Consulate of Alaska along with other local health and social services partners have been working on a public health collaboration unique to our state called Ventanilla de Salud, or Health Window.

The Health Window program is designed to increase public awareness, understanding, and knowledge of health services available at the local level.

Last year, DHHS and the Mexican Consulate entered into a working agreement to continue efforts to advance public health education and screening programs among our Latino community. Along with this agreement, the Mexican government approved a $25,000 grant to secure DHHS’s continued participation. Activities include health screenings and education, as well as guidance to local health resources.

A year has passed since DHHS and the Consulate began this important public health effort and on August 8, Dr. Jose Angel Cordova Villalobos, Mexican Secretary of Health will visit Anchorage for the official opening of Ventanilla de Salud. DHHS looks forward to its continued partnership on this important program.
