Fur Rondy Gives Anchorage a Reason to Celebrate

Anchorage’s Fur Rondy was recently named the #1 winter carnival in the world by National Geographic Rondy’s success and being named #1 in the world can be credited to the range of events, long standing traditions and the spirit of Rondy.  

The coordination and efforts of employees from several Municipal departments also help make Fur Rondy #1 and such an attraction for local and visitors alike.  If you see any Municipal employees helping around the events be sure to give them a thank you.  The departments that have helped out this year are: EasyPark Alaska, Anchorage Fire Department, Health & Human Services, Municipal Light & Power, Office of Emergency Management, Parks & Recreation, Planning & Public Works, Anchorage Police Department, Port of Anchorage, Public Transportation, Traffic Engineering, City Sign Shop, and Street Maintenance & Operations, and Right of Way.

You may have missed Snow Shoe Softball last weekend, but there is still plenty of Rondy to fill your upcoming weekend.  Here is what is going on through Sunday:

  • Thurs - Sun 3/1 - 3/4 - World Championship Outdoor Pond Hockey Tournament
  • Fri & Sat 3/2 & 3/3 - Youth Pond Hockey Tournament
  • Saturday, 3/3 Alaska Hold'Em Tournament of Champions
  • Saturday, 3/3 5th Annual Running of the Reindeer
  • Saturday, 3/3, Vintage Snow Machine Parade
  • Saturday, 3/3 62nd Annual Miners & Trappers Ball - "Going to the Dogs
