Yvette Stone, Sarah's CREATE Recipient and Teacher, with Sarah and Mayor Sullivan

Sarah Redmon is a junior at Bartlett High School; however, due to her hard work and extraordinary determination she will be graduating one year early.

Sarah grew up in and out of the foster care system.  Since the age of eleven, she has lived in five different homes.  Despite her childhood struggles, she is dependable, possesses strong interpersonal skills, manages her time wisely, and consistently demonstrates responsible behavior, which shows a high-level of maturity and responsibility.  While earning her high school diploma while maintaining employment, she revels in the challenges that lie ahead and genuinely appreciates the importance of working hard to achieve her goals.

Sarah is a valued member of the Bartlett school community, who remains actively involved and believes in giving back to her community.  She helps organize and contributes to yearly school food drives and donates to blood drives.  Without a doubt, her contributions will make a positive difference to our community.

Her goals include graduating from college and pursuing a career in the medical field, although she has a passion for the culinary arts and photography.  She is determined to excel at school and live a healthy and productive life.  As an adult, she hopes to become a Foster Parent and support troubled teens.

Sarah’s Nominator and School Counselor Regina Sather added:

In the 13 years that I have worked for the Anchorage School District, I have never been more proud and inspired by a young person.  She is one of the most resilient, independent, and goal-oriented young adults I have ever known.  She is the type of individual one would like to teach, employ, and have as a neighbor.
