Brittany and Megan receiving award

Megan Beith, Brittany's CREATE Recipient and Teacher with Brittany and Mayor Sullivan

Brittany Hazellief works almost full-time while attending school.

She lives with her mother, who is disabled, and her younger brother.  Brittany’s work income supports her mom, her brother, and herself.  Sometimes Brittany has to work very late hours and then she still has to get up early and get to school on time and do her best in her classes.  And she does it, without complaint.

Brittany has also regularly served as security for the Iditarod’s ceremonial Anchorage start.  Additionally, Brittany is a citizen of the world; she had the opportunity to travel with People to People where she served as a student ambassador from East High School to Germany.  While serving as a student ambassador, Brittany participated in volunteer work in Germany to help out the communities and the environment there.

Brittany wants to study psychology after high school.  She has begun her study of this subject while in school; she is currently enrolled in Advanced Placement Psychology at East.  Brittany’s goal is to get a job working for the Anchorage Police Department as an officer where she can help the citizens of Anchorage every day.

Brittany’s Nominator and School Counselor Margaret Gadsden added:

Out of the 330 students on my caseload this year and the thousands of students I’ve worked with over my 14 years in education, Brittany stands out as one of the most positive students I’ve ever had the pleasure to know.
