And we're off! Over the weekend we distributed our new bear resistant roll carts to Government Hill residents and collected the last of the regular roll carts today. We're excited to have partnered with Government Hill on this pilot program! To follow Solid Waste Services, click here!

NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS

Summer...finally

I hope you and your friends and family are enjoying a wonderful summer.  Remember that summer means construction season.  From Ship Creek's new garden filtration system, public restrooms, and a fish cleaning station to park and trail upgrades and road repaving, there is lots of work happening around town. For an interactive map of construction projects in the Anchorage bowl, click here. As always, respect the cone zone, and be extra cautious around construction areas.

Things are happening downtown

In our efforts to make  Town Square Park more accessible for all, we recently removed the broken fountain, which had become a sanctuary for bad activities. ACDA opened up "The Rooftop" last week, check out the awesome activities (basketball, table tennis, yoga, chess) and amazing views on top of the 5th avenue parking garage.

Have a problem or idea?

Do you have an idea on how to make Anchorage a better place to live, or just want to report a broken streetlight or a pothole in need of repair?  #ANCWorks! is live and allows you to make a report from your mobile phone, tablet, or computer and provides online tracking capabilities so you can follow-up and check in easily, any time you want. Check it out and  help us serve you better.

However you are enjoying summer, please be safe and have fun. See you on the trails (or maybe the rooftop?)!

PUBLIC SAFETY CORNER

Inappropriate disposal of smoking materials is a common cause of building fires in Anchorage. It is a common practice for smokers to put out their cigarette in flower pots. Potting soil contains organic material which can be ignited by smoldering cigarettes. Please remind family and friends who smoke to dispose of cigarettes and other smoking materials in an ashtray or water filled container.
