​​The health department's Human Services Division manages is dedicated to the social wellbeing of our community. The division provides resources to Anchorage's seniors, disabled inviduals, child care providers, and parents. The division also manages a number of HUD funding streams that are used to improve access to housing in Anchorage.

Emergency Preparedness

The Emergency Preparedness program develops, coordinates, and executes plans, policies and procedures for public health disasters. Our three core public health response missions are mass casualty, mass care, and mass prophylaxis. ​

Environmental Health Services

Environmental Health Services is responsible for enforcing the Municipality's food safety, air quality, and noise laws and investigating complaints. EH offers a variety of related permits as well as educational resources on topics like safe food handling and improving Anchorage's air quality. Staff also keep the public informed about any air quality threats.

Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a supplemental food and nutrition program for pregnant and breastfeeding women and children from birth to age five. WIC provides healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care and other services, for Anchorage families who qualify.

Our WIC program also provide​​s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program education (SNAP-Ed) to the community. SNAP-Ed is an evidence-based program that helps people explore how to stretch food dollars, how to shop for and cook healthy meals, and how to stay physically active.​​​

Anchorage Opioid Task Force

The Anchorage Opioid Task Force is a coalition of community organizations, youth, adults, and governmental and tribal agencies who are focused on leveraging resources and data to create a comprehensive plan to reduce lives lost to substance use in Anchorage. The AOTF will be an asset to Anchorage in the management of the substance use crisis to promote a healthier and safer community.

The Anchorage Health Department is the steward of the opioid settlement funds for the Municipality of Anchorage and is the convening agency for the AOTF. ​
