There are a number of landlords in Anchorage which accept section 8 vouchers, including Cook Inlet Housing Authority and Anchorage Neighborhood Housing Services.
Public Housing
There are two public housing providers in Anchorage: the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) and the Cook Inlet Housing Authority (CIHA).
Local Affordable Home Ownership Opportunities
Cook Inlet Housing Authority: The Cook Inlet Housing Authority helps local residents with home ownership, home improvements, and affordable rental units.
Anchorage Neighborhood Housing Services: ANHS is dedicated to supporting affordable housing options and to revitalizing Anchorage neighborhoods; they do this by offering affordable rental housing (which accept section 8 vouchers), homeownership assistance (exterior rehab, downpayment assistance, and more), and administering the Department of Neighborhoods’ AnCHOR loan program and some weatherization.
Habitat for Humanity: Habitat helps low-to medium- income families build new homes to live in.

AnCHORSecond Deed of Trust: AnCHOR, a grant funded program administered through the Department of Neighborhoods by Anchorage Neighborhood Housing Services, assists low-wage families who are first time homebuyers by funding a portion of the down payment and closing costs.
In addition, many local banks and credit unions also have special programs for affordable home-ownership. Example lending institutions in the Anchorage area include Wells Fargo, First National Bank Alaska, Northrim Bank, Alaska First Bank and Trust, Key Bank, Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union, Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, and Credit Union 1.

Municipality of Anchorage: This is the grant funded weatherization program run through the Department of Neighborhoods.
Private Companies that Do Weatherization: These for-profit businesses may be useful for those not eligible for our weatherization services.
Anchorage Homeless Help Providers
Covenant House: The Covenant House provides food, shelter, clothing, crisis care, health care, education, vocational training, drub abuse treatment, drug prevention programs, legal services, recreational activities, mother/child programs, transitional living programs, street outreach, and aftercare for homeless youths (up to 21 years of age).
Beans Cafe: Beans Café provides meals, daytime shelter, social service assistance and referrals to men, women, and children.
Downtown Soup Kitchen: The Downtown Soup Kitchen provides meals, emergency clothing, showers, and laundry.
Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission: This Christian organization provides shelter, food, clothing, and counseling for homeless men, women, and children.
Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis: This non-profit organization provides a number of services, including shelter and advocacy (medical, legal, housing, and financial), for victims displaced by domestic violence.
Alaska Youth & Parent Foundation: AYPF helps find food, housing, education, and health services for homeless youths.
Brother Francis Shelter: In addition to shelter, Brother Francis offers meals, showers, case management services, access to housing assistance, employment and financial counseling, dental, medical and mental health care, and substance abuse treatment and counseling for homeless individuals.
Clare House: In addition to temporary shelter, the Clare House, which offers services to women and their children, helps tutor children, assists clients in locating permanent housing, makes referrals to other appropriate service agencies, mental health or treatment services, and helps find employment.
Salvation Army McKinnell House: The McKinnell House, which serves two-parent families or single parenting fathers, provides shelter, food, financial assistance for clothing and medical prescriptions, and connects children to educational and support services.
Safe Harbor Inn: The Safe Harbor Inn is a non-profit motel that provides transitional lodging for people coming- with an agency referral- off the streets.

Cook Inlet Tribal Council: The Cook Inlet Tribal Council is a social service agency, which provides social, educational and employment services to Alaska Natives and Native Americans living in the Cook Inlet region.
Boys & Girls Clubs: This organization provides life-enhancing programs and character development experiences for youths.
Volunteers of America: VoA is an organization that enables those seeking volunteer opportunities to find an appropriate match.
Senior Services
Anchorage Senior Center: The senior center is a bustling activity center that provides meals, health services, information and referral services, arts and crafts, and educational and recreational programs to people 55 and older.
Chugiak Senior Center: The senior center provides a number of services (including assisted and independent living facilities) to residents of Chugiak/Eagle River/Birchwood and Eklutna who are 55 and older.
Mabel T. Caverly Senior Center: The senior center provides social, recreational and/or emotional support to elderly persons (55+) in the Anchorage area
Senior Access Program: A division of ANHS, the Senior Access Program’s purpose is increasing accessibility through home modifications.
Anchor Rides (Senior Transportation): AnchorRIDES, a division of PeopleMover, is a shared ride service providing curb-to-curb trips.
Disability Services
Access Alaska: Access Alaska helps seniors and disabled individuals in a variety of ways including independent living, advocacy, and counseling.
Arc of Anchorage: The Arc provides many care services for disabled Alaskans.
ATLA (Assistance Technology of Alaska): ATLA aims to enhance the quality of life for Alaskans through education, demonstration, consultation, acquisition and implementation of assistive technologies.
Legal Services
Alaska Lawyer Referral Service: This organization can direct clients to Anchorage lawyers in many areas of specialization.
Alaska Legal Service Corporation: is a private, nonprofit law firm that provides free civil legal assistance to low-income Alaskans.
Ombudsman: The Ombudsman’s office is an independent, impartial municipal office, readily available to the public, empowered to investigate the acts of Municipal agencies.
