Call Before You Dig!
Planning a home improvement job? Planting a tree? Installing a fence or deck? Here's what you need to know first:
Whether you are planning to do it yourself or hire a professional, smart digging means calling 811 before each job. Homeowners often make risky assumptions about whether or not they should get their utility lines marked, but every digging job requires a call – even small projects like planting trees and shrubs. Special Inspection Program
Special Inspectors furnish continuous or periodic inspection as prescribed by Article 1704 of the International Building Code. Special inspectors are required to be approved by Building Safety for each category of inspection before performing inspections. The special inspection process is in addition to those inspections conducted by the municipal building inspector.
For inspector application and requirements go to: Special Inspection
Program.
In order to properly train special inspectors, the Municipality of Anchorage, working with the Special Inspection Advisory Committee, has established a Special Inspector Intern Program. The program will begin June 20, 2008 and will be administered by Building Safety. This program outlines the qualifications and role of a Special Inspector Intern. After completion of qualifying in-house training, field training, and any required testing, an application for Special Inspector Intern may be submitted to Building Safety. For information and application go to: Special Inspection Intern Program.
To verify or locate a special inspector go to: Approved Special Inspectors.

Information on Contractor Licensing!!!!!
Before you hire a contractor for your remodeling, electrical, plumbing/mechanical, or construction project, check our new municipal licensing website to insure the company you hire is fully licensed and bonded. Licensed contractors have a general contractors and municipal license, and must prove they have the proper training, general liability insurance, and bonding for their state license. The traditional "handyman" is not required to have any training or insurance. If a property owner hires an unlicensed contractor and one of the workers causes damage or is injured on the job, the property owner may be held personally liable. Protect yourself; insure your contractor is licensed and bonded. Check our new licensing website: http://bsd.muni.org/contractorlicensing/ |
